A PV disconnection point is a safety device that allows the DC power from a solar panel array to be safely isolated from the rest of the solar system. It enables installers and maintenance personnel to disconnect the photovoltaic (PV) array for servicing, fault finding, or emergency situations without accessing live wiring.

A PV disconnection point improves the safety and serviceability of a solar installation by providing a convenient way to isolate the solar array. It helps reduce the risks associated with working on live DC circuits and simplifies maintenance, repairs, and system upgrades.

A PV disconnection point is typically installed between the solar panel array and the inverter or solar charge controller.

Yes. PV disconnection points are suitable for off-grid, hybrid, and battery-based solar systems, as well as grid-connected installations. They provide a safe means of isolating the solar array regardless of whether the system is charging batteries or supplying an inverter.

Installation should only be carried out by a licensed electrician or accredited solar installer. Solar DC circuits can remain energised whenever the panels are exposed to sunlight, so correct installation is essential to ensure the system operates safely and complies with applicable Australian electrical and solar installation standards.
